Choose against me if you have to
choose. What would make it work
together with the caustic excuse you
choose against me? If you have to
make something up, by all means do
so, love. Any insignificant quirk
choose against me if you have to.
Choose what would make it work.

Reminded me of someone I knew once…she would fabricate facts in order to justify her actions or draw stories from old relationships and tell them if they were true of today’s relationship…how sad…enjoyed your poem.
i actually have no idea where this one came from except that its two key lines were the only two i remembered from a frantic dream i was having last night & woke enough to scratch down on a moleskine i keep bedside then completely forgot until i was back in there this afternoon for some more sestina work & on seeing the two lines could remember enough of the dream to feel the panic & vertigo coming back (included a man having his face sawed off because he had ratted on friends) & could recall that it had been a triolet that was far sharper edged than what i’ve approximated with here but this was the best i could do awake, perhaps i should remain asleep if i want to do these the way it felt in the dream, but if i’d not scribbled at least those two lines down in the dark then even this would’ve been completely forgotten since although i recall parts of the dream & can recall this coming from the dream i have no idea where it came from or what it was supposed to mean, so it’s probably me but in the waking version is not consciously aimed at anyone or meant for anyone

Choose what would make it work
for you. Is what will work for me
important? Don’t make me smirk.
Choose what would make it work,
love. Your decision wouldn’t irk
me the least bit. Honestly,
choose what would make it work.
For you is what will work for me.
thank you, maggie – mine still feels wandering to me, but it feels like you’ve found a way to step into its lost dream & speak for whomever i was hearing that so sharply & clearly being recited – ever, s
