The Third, Into

"For I cannot but ascribe to some superhumanity the existence
of beings vast enough to wear blue pajamas at the very moment
when they manifest themselves as universal conscience."
                - Roland Barthes
I’ll be there then, although I can’t say how,
arriving at the banks of your dark trance,
the psyche of my vision to romance,
the body of my work to well endow.

Accept with favor this my golden bough
the price of my admission to finance
in sacrifice to gods of random chance.

To heaven’s common light, forever ciao!
To loves and lovers, permanent farewell!
Perhaps I’ll write you from the other side
to rhyme and reason out what’s left to tell
inside the crack cut by the last long knell.

Merci, Charon! Across this tempting tide
take me where I belong: to holy hell.
