How Many Roads Must A Poet Cross Before You Can Call Her Damned?

Hey look! two more streets're crossed!
Damn, I wish I had something to sell
like a soul or all the other junk I've lost.
Hey look! two more streets're crossed
again. What did they quote the going cost
of a wrecked poem might be here in hell?
Hey look! two more streets're crossed!
Damn, I wish I had something to sell
that wouldn't come off sounding so damned cheap!
Hey look! two more streets're crossed
close by where muses make their midnight creep.
That wouldn't come off sounding so damned cheap
if poems were dreams and inspiration sleep.
If I could all my cravings there exhaust,
that wouldn't come off sounding so damned cheap.
Hey look! two more streets're crossed!

Sara! I LOVE this poem…as I do all of your work. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your formatting secret (in such a clever way). Don’t worry, your “edge” lies deep in your mastery of language, not just the way it spills so beautifully to the page. Best, de jackson
